Rita Ora enters the Official Chart history books today, breaking a record held for 30 years.
The singer’s latest release, Let You Love Me, becomes her 13th Top 10 on the Official Singles Chart, climbing to Number 6 on the latest Top 40.
It means Rita sets a new UK chart record for the most Top 10 singles by a British female artist. The star overtakes music icons Shirley Bassey and Petula Clark, who each lay claim to 12 Top 10 hits.
Speaking to OfficialCharts.com, Rita was overcome. “I’m so grateful and honoured – this is insane! I can’t put into words what this means to me! I really appreciate everyone’s support,” she said. “I’m really proud of the journey that the making of Phoenix has taken me on. To my fans, thank you for your patience and thank you always for listening. I wouldn’t be here without you, and I promise to keep giving you all my best.”
Rita has had a strong run of hits on the Official Chart of late. Since June last year, five of her singles have reached the top tier: Your Song (7), Lonely Together (with Avicii, 4), Anywhere (2), For You (8) and Let You Love Me (8).
Let You Love Me is the latest single from Rita’s forthcoming second album Phoenix, out November 23.
Behind Rita, Shirley and Petula, British female artists with 11 UK Top 10s are Jess Glynne, (British-born) Olivia Newton-John, Cilla Black, Emeli Sandé and Dusty Springfield.
Only last September Rita and Avicii released their song Lonely Together, two days ago the DJ was found dead. Via Twitter Rita shared:
I have no words. I remember how amazing it was to make Lonely Together and it felt like just yesterday we were talking. Condolences to Avicii’s family, friends, and the fans who supported him. May he rest in peace. Gone too soon. I’m devastated. Heartbroken.
The team of Rita Ora Central is devasted about the news and wishes Tim’s family, friends and fans lots of strength and love as well as privacy during this hard time. To pay tribute to Avicii and his amazing work we’d like to share the music video for Lonely Together with you once again. Rest in Peace.
Rita Ora has range when it comes to singing and style, but at the 2017 Met Gala, only one note would do. “I knew it had to be red,” Ora told Vogue. “That’s my signature color, and the way Rei Kawakubo uses that color is so epic.” Her Marchesa couture dress was a spectacle in and of itself: With all-over bias-cut ribbons and a cascading fishtail skirt, the look made a strong statement both coming and going. Created by Marchesa’s Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig with input from Ora’s stylist, Jason Rembert, the look was two months in the making, including multiple conference calls and meetings to iron out every detail. “They are so amazing to collaborate with and made this whole process seamless and fun!” Ora said of the trio. “I knew that they could really execute this theme so well, but, at the same time, make it a team effort.”
That effort brought an additional benefit in the form of a new friendship. “Me and the Marchesa ladies have such good chemistry,” Ora said. “We are like family. I like how comfortable they make me feel.” This closeness led to a look that matched the Comme des Garçons dress code while still staying true to Ora’s sartorial roots as well as her red carpet icons: Kate Moss and Bianca Jagger. “Both women are the epitome of comfortable, chic, and fearless,” she says. “I just love when women own everything they wear. I really try and channel that vibe.”
That daring approach to dressing is what defines Ora’s singular sense of style—and the message she hoped to send on the red carpet. “I believe it says ‘risk taker,’ which is what I usually go for at the Met Gala,” explained Ora. A quick gander at her past turns at the party of the year reveals that the common thread all comes down to color—like the Tom Ford dress she chose in 2015. “Of course it was red!” Ora said with a laugh. Her signature color palette still left plenty of room for imagination this year—see the oversize sculpted bows at the shoulder and the fitted illusion tulle corset. “The construction of a Marchesa dress is so beautiful,” Ora said. “Georgina really knows a woman’s body and how to capture a moment.”
For further insight into how it all came together, Ora shares candid photos from the first Monday in May, as seen in the slideshow above.
Rita Ora teases Ed Sheeran duet: ‘It’s a heartwarming love song’
Songstress Rita Ora has revealed that she collaborated with Ed Sheeran on a cut that appears on her new record and is proud of how the duet turned out.
She teamed up with Sheeran for a song called ‘Us’ and confessed to Rap-Up.com that it’s a very touching track: “For me, it’s one of the sweetest, heartwarming, incredible love songs/reality that I’ve ever heard, and it kind makes me think, ‘Thank God that someone wrote that in a song.'”
Ora went onto add that despite having already released her debut album back in 2012, she’s looking at her forthcoming new record as the beginning of her career: “I’m approaching it like it’s my first record ’cause I haven’t necessarily released a worldwide record before. It really presents the music I love as a fan of music, from my love of punk to hip-hop to R&B to soul.”
The ‘I Will Never Let You Down’ hitmaker recently told Perez Hilton that the theme of her new record is sexuality: “This album is probably the most eclectic record I’ve done so far I think it really represents my music taste. It’s really influenced on my personal life and who I am as a 24-year-old Londoner and just all the experiences that I been through. The theme of this album I think it’s definitely sexual but it has a form of innocence to it.”
Songstress Rita Ora has opened up about collaborating with musical icon Prince and confessed that she was surprised to see that he had live doves in his studio.
Speaking to Seth Meyers about the experience, Ora explained: “We went to Minneapolis, Paisley Park. Walked in (and) it was literally like a Prince museum: ornaments, the motorbike from Purple Rain (movie)… And then he has doves in there…! It was surreal. It was a whole week of just surreal music-ness juice (sic).”
The song that the pair worked on together is reported to appear on Prince’s upcoming new album ‘HitNRun’, which is tipped for a September 7 release through Tidal, and she added that the recording experience was bizarre:
“It was so funny though, because I just kept hearing (doves cooing) and I’m like, ‘These doves are really making noises! Everyone looks at them like they’re angelic and gorgeous and there’s just doves in the studio. I just found it really amazing.”
‘I Will Never Let You Down’ sensation Rita Ora has revealed that she shouldn’t have to defend her collaboration with R&B hitmaker Chris Brown.
During an interview with Manchester’s Key 103 radio, the beauty explained that she’s tired of having to justify her decision to work with Brown on their duet ‘Body On Me’ because it’s nobody else’s business:
“I don’t have to defend working with him actually. It was a natural kind of collaboration. He was actually recording next door and I just thought there was a really good moment for me to go in there and say, ‘Hey, I think I’ve got a song’.”
She went onto add that Brown loved the song and agreed to collaborate with her immediately: “We’ve been wanting to work together for a while and he listened to it and loved it. And then that was it, we recorded it.”
Rita Ora says the video for her new single is “intimate”.The singer has teamed up with Chris Brown for the track ‘Body On Me’.
The tune went on sale on Thursday (August 6) and the Brit told Capital FM that its promo clip should land in the coming weeks.
Ora said: “The video has been shot, it comes out in a week and a half and I can’t wait for you guys to see it.
“It’s probably one of the most intimate videos I’ve ever done, but it’s really exciting.”
The video was shot by Colin Tilley and the filming took place in Los Angeles.
‘Body On Me’ is due to feature on Ora’s upcoming second album, which is slated for a November release.
It seems as though Rita Ora is ready to put herself on the map in America, as she’s teamed up with Chris Brown for her new upcoming single Body On Me. The song title suggests that this collaboration might just be a little raunchy! Who’s ready for it?
A picture of the two singers on set of the video was uploaded to their Instagram accounts a few days ago. The caption read: ‘the uploads ‘coming soon (body on me)’
Although there is no scheduled release date for Body On Me yet, it has been reported that the single will be out in the next couple of weeks. Ora made reference to her forthcoming album in a recent interview with radio station Hot 97, stating that one of her aims is to empower women.
“It’s really about how we get judged for the things that we do and how men don’t. I know it’s part of society, but the thing is – I think we can all stick together as females.”
This collaboration could potentially be something really incredible, and if the single sounds as good as the two look, we’re all in for a treat.
